Cary Moon’s Run For Mayor Gaining Momentum
Earns Sole Endorsements from Sierra Club, Transit Riders Union, Upgrade Seattle,
Frame, O’Brien, Askini & More
9/15/17: Cary Moon earned sole endorsements from the Sierra Club, the Transit Riders Union, Upgrade Seattle, transgender community leader Danni Askini, State Representative Noel Frame, and Seattle City Councilmember Mike O’Brien this week, adding to a growing list of supporters, including labor unions, Democratic organizations, and progressive community leaders.
The endorsements come as polling results show Moon virtually tied with Durkan, 36% – 38% — despite Durkan’s campaign, and a corporate-backed independent expenditure on her behalf, spending $475,000 more than Moon’s campaign has spent to date.
From the Sierra Club’s Seattle group:
“Cary Moon has spent her career carrying forward the values and vision shared by the Sierra Club,” said Jesse Piedfort, chair of the Sierra Club’s Seattle group. “As a candidate for mayor she has done the best job of emphasizing climate and environmental issues in this election with her focus on affordable housing, transit, and sustainability. Moon not only understands the climate crisis, she has spent well over a decade working to try and prepare Seattle to meet it. She has done so in ways that also support the Sierra Club’s equity, inclusion, and justice work – making a commitment to racial equity and representation in her campaign, her platform, and in her administration. As this summer’s hot, dry, smoky weather reminds us, the impacts of climate change are already here. As mayor, Cary Moon will be able to bring this city together to meet them head on and provide the inclusive and equitable leadership we need in these challenging times.”
From Transit Riders Union
“TRU is proud to endorse Cary Moon for Mayor. Seattle is at a crossroads,” said Katie Wilson, General Secretary of the Transit Riders Union. “Our next Mayor will be in a position to shape the future of our city, who benefits from growth and who can afford to call Seattle home. We need a Mayor who will approach the homelessness crisis with realism, compassion, and respect for homeless people’s rights and dignity. We need a Mayor who understands the scale of the housing crisis and will tackle it with energy and action, not just words. We need a Mayor with the vision and courage to stand up against the political power of big money and for all the people of our city. Vote for Cary Moon.”
From Upgrade Seattle
“Cary Moon has shown she is willing to advocate on behalf of Seattle residents even when their interests conflict with the desires of big business,” said Devin Glasser, Upgrade Seattle board member. “If Seattle is going to expand high-quality and affordable internet access across every neighborhood, we will need a champion in the mayor’s office who is willing to stand up to Comcast and CenturyLink, not cash their checks. We strongly believe that under Cary Moon’s leadership, Seattle has the opportunity to become the largest city in the nation to establish its own public internet utility.”
From State Representative Noel Frame:
“A mayor’s job is to provide vision and strong leadership for the city, and Cary Moon has what it takes,” said State Representative Noel Frame (36-Seattle). I know she shares my priorities and values around housing affordability, growth and justice.”
From Seattle Councilmember Mike O’Brien
“I’ve known and worked with Cary Moon for years,” said Seattle Councilmember Mike O’Brien. “She has the vision, policy chops, and leadership experience Seattle needs on the 7th floor. Now, more than ever, we need a mayor who is committed to the best interests of the entire city.”
On Monday, September 18 from 5:30 – 7pm, Cary Moon is hosting a public “Walk the Talk” community event at El Centro de la Raza on Beacon Hill to answer questions, share her vision for Seattle, and engage community members.
